Clay and I were lucky enough that our Spring Breaks were the same week! We decided to go to Michigan to surprise my Mom since her birthday was just a couple days before. We ended up not surprising her and telling her a couple days before we would get there, but it was totally worth it. We left on a Friday afternoon and split the 13 hour drive into 2 days. We drove from Lawrence to Indianapolis, and then drove the remaining 4 hours to Brighton Saturday morning.
The weather was so nice on Saturday that we decided to do a picnic at the park. Clay and I, plus my parents, went to the store and got fried chicken, potato/macaroni salad, and fruit salad, and headed to Island Lake for dinner. After that, we started re-watching Modern Family with my Mom. I just love that show! Clay and I probably relate most to Claire and Phil.
Sunday we went to church with my parents, and then came home and we made them dinner. Clay made Brazilian Stroganoff, which was delicious!
On Monday, Clay studied the whole day. (One reason we decided to come to Michigan over break was so that I would have someone to "hang out with" while Clay was studying. We both decided that if we were to stay in Lawrence over break, I would have gotten bored and asked, "How much more studying do you have to do today?")
Tuesday my mom and I went to the spa!!! It was awesome! We went to the MGM Grand Hotel in Detroit, which has an amazing spa. My mom has been there a couple times before with her friends, and I was always jealous I wasn't able to come. The spa has a 5 foot infinity pool where you can do laps or just swim leisurely. They also have a big hot tub, steam room, and a bunch of big pod-like chairs to relax in. We had so much fun and got pedicures while we were there. (Clay was studying while I was relaxing. The joys of law school.) That night we went to East Lansing and I was able to see my best friend, Chelsea. We have been friends for years. We met in 1st grade (talking about scabs and bruises...) and were inseparable until high school. I went to BYU and she went to Michigan State, but we have still stayed in touch. It was so great to see her and catch up.
Wednesday we were able to go to the LDS Detroit Temple. I love going to the temple and learning more about my Savior. We are so excited for the Kansas City Temple to open and only be an hour away from us!!
We drove back Thursday afternoon/Friday morning, and saw The Hunger Games Friday night. We loved it. We both read the books (me: about 2 years ago, Clay: 3 months ago) and loved them. Clay said he liked the movie better than the books, but I liked the books better. Anyways, we definitely recommend it to anyone.
Tonight, since it is 70 degrees out, we are going on a picnic in the park.
I love this warm, sunny weather!
